Lessons-Learned #2

Next thing, I recalled was one of the famous Murphy's Laws: "When everything else fails, read the instructions (manual)." So, since I never had a formal class or I've read an HTML book (even though I actually perused one when I first heard the term (new "buzz" word, perhaps 2 or 3 years ago), I went directly to one of the books I have on the topic. [Not to add here the experience with a UNIX editor, even a "nice" one, like "Pico"...]

I've read for a while and compared with what I've seen in some of the Web pages. Things started clearing up a little bit, so I started seeing the "light at the end of the tunnel".

And I started all over again, but still with no significant progress recorded! So, I started looking for an HTML Editor (since MS Word plus Internet Assistant that I downloaded from Microsoft' site, did not do any good - more time "wasted"). Not much progress either (but again, days and days of back-and-forth, frustration, and panic, since I started running well behind my schedule!...)

Then, somehow I've got my hands on DeltaPoint's QuickSite Web page builder (wizard-like) - I spent $99... After other number of days of learning that (easy, sure!...) tool, I still did not get what I wanted to build!...

Next iteration was when someone at work told me that Netscape Gold has a built in Web page editor. More than that you can download it for free from Netscape's Web site. I did follow through and I found it as the solution to all my problems! "Eureka!"

Thinks started going really well and with good speed (perhaps due in part for all my previous experiences, too...). But two more obstacles: 1) trying to merge this tool (Netscape Gold work) with whatever I built before with "QuickSite"(major investment in time and effort) - a big NO-NO!, and 2) trying to get the outside links and especially the pictures working (other many hours of frustration!)

Then, things started going directly to the target and at high speed, too. One thing I still did not get it, is to publish (whatever I build on my machine and store on the harddisk, to a remote location, like my Nova's account, directly into a sub-directory; it must go under the root!).
